Welcome to Jacobs

Jacob class are taught by Miss Stokes with Miss Pendlenton teaching PE and Outdoor Learning on Tuesday afternoons.

Both teachers are supported by Senior Teaching Assistants Amanda and Maria.  The staff team are dedicated to ensuring all children are learning and are happy.

Children in Jacob Class live up to our School Vision, ‘We love to learn.  We learn to love’.  As their brains are developing, through interactions with their varied environments the Reception Class offers learning through play, by allowing the children to observe one another.  The daily timetable also encourages, supports and embraces positive interactions with the adults in the class, and has time set for guided learning and direct teaching.  Although the timetable is set and provision is made available, this is fluid in nature and changes to the interests and needs of the children within the class.

The Curriculum

The Reception Curriculum builds upon previous provision and gets children ready for their future school years, beginning in Year 1.  Using the Department of Education Development Matters non-statutory guidance for the early year’s foundation stage, alongside the Early Years Coalition Birth to 5 Matters carefully planned lessons and activities help children achieve the 17 Early Learning Goals outlined in the Department of Education’s Early Years Foundation Stage framework – (click on the image to the right for the document).  These lessons allow children to engage and learn whilst forging positive relationships and developing as a unique child.  Our phonics programme Read, Write, Inc. gives children a flying start in learning to read and write whilst the Parents and Carers section of the programme allows further practice for your child at home.

Year 1 children in Jacob Class follow the National Curriculum programme, engaging in the same subjects as children in Swaledale Class.  Lessons for Year 1 children are planned and resourced in partnership with the teachers of Swaledale Class, Mrs Greenup and Miss Pendlenton.
