The current situation, as of June 2009 is as follows:

Childcare

We meet some of these needs through our after school club which runs each day between 3.15 and 5.30. The club is run by the school. Local childminders can be found through the following link. Local Childminders. At present we have no significant demand for a breakfast /before school club. We will continue to monitor and attempt to respond if the need rises sufficiently.

Varied activities

The following after schools clubs are in operation: Football, French, Netball, Multi Sports, Gardening and Homework. Other clubs run at lunchtimes and at different times of the year. In the past year we have run clubs for the following activities: Choir, Chess, Computer, Dance and Journalism.

Music tuition is offered for children who wish to study Viola and Clarinet. An option is available for children who wish to learn the guitar.

Each term we circulate a list of holiday activities and clubs running in the locality.

Parenting support

We have run Family learning programmes over the past three years. These have been based on Literacy and Numeracy and have been successful and well attended. More of these are planned for the coming year. Other family support has been in the form of School produced guidance booklets and weblinks / contact details for other local services such as Social Services, Connexions and Barnardos.

Swift and easy access

This takes place in a number of ways at Staveley School. If you have a concern about any aspect of your child's health or development we will help you to source the appropriate assistance. If your concerns are to do with learning, we have a well developed and efficient mechanism for helping. The school's policy on Special Educational Needs (SEN) can be viewed at any time through the Learning Platform. We have an SEN Coodinator (SENCo) who manages and coordinates the strategies that we emply to help your child. Through this process we may refer on beyond the school to seek specialist help or guidance if that is seen to be appropriate.

If you concerns are health related, one avenue is always though your GP. The school nurse is however available by appointment to discuss any aspect of your child's development; simply ask via the school office.

Community use

Currently a number of local groups use the school premises including the History Society, Art Group, Brownies and After School Club. Every two years the school helps to host the Staveley Storytelling festival. In the last two years we have also hosted community ICT learning provided by Kendal College. If you would like to use the school site, please enquire via the school office.

For those pupils who do not have easy access to the internet at home, we have a standing offer for any pupils accompanied by their parents or responsible adult, to use the school's computers after the end of the school day.
