What is SEAL?

Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning

The SEAL programme enables children to develop five broad social and emotional aspects of learning:

• self awareness
• managing feelings
• motivation
• empathy
• social skills

Where children have good skills in these areas they will be motivated to, and equipped to:

• make and sustain friendships
• deal with and resolve conflict effectively and fairly
• solve problems with others or by themselves
• manage their feelings
• work and play co-operatively
• compete fairly and win and lose with dignity and respect for competitors
• understand and value differences

Over the year we will look at 6 themes + 1 short theme

Theme 1 - Autumn 1st half	New Beginnings
Theme 2 Autumn 2nd half	Getting on and Falling out
Theme 3 - one to two weeks in the autumn term to coincide with anti-bullying week in November	Say no to bullying
Theme 4 - Spring 1st half	Going for Goals!
Theme 5 - Spring 2nd half	Good to be me
Theme 6 - Summer 1st half	Relationships
Theme 7 - Summer 2nd half	Changes

 

In our family groups we have spent time thinking about things we would like to achieve over the year. We each wrote on a leaf to show what our goal for the year is. This display is in the school hall if you would like a closer look.
