Staveley School has a strong commitment to the environment and we all try to minimise the negative impact that we have on the earth. There is a flourishing Eco School action group composed of adults and children and through our rolling action plans we are seeking to make significant improvements across the school. Some of our recent achievements have been:

• Stopping our use of paper towels in the washrooms
• Fitting push taps in all sinks
• 'Switch that light off' campaign
• Reduce, re-use and re-cyle scheme for paper in school
• Pursuaded the council to collect our waste paper for recycling
• Carried out our own waste review
• Visited the Flusco landfill site as part of a project with the National Trust.
• Submitted our action plans for Eco-Schools awards.
• Sold ethically sourced cotton shopping bags as alternatives to plastic carrier bags
• Sourced all our tea and coffee through Fair Trade suppliers.

We hold our Bronze Award from Eco-Schools and are working towards Silver

We are currently investigating our level of insulation, thermostatic radiator valves and building links with the Sustainability & Energy Network in Staveley (S.E.N.S.).
